The public ledger is what makes Bitcoin sovereign — no bank, no state, no rewriter. It is also what makes it observable. Every address is public forever, every KYC exchange knows your face, and chain analysis has turned that observability into a business. MINTED is a reference implementation of the layer that puts the privacy back.
It is a receipt. The chain remembers every input, every output, every timestamp, every counterparty. Money you must handle carefully to avoid ruining yourself is not freedom. It is a public confession that clears in ten minutes.
"Know your customer" was never about the customer. It is about the state knowing the customer, through the wallet, without asking the customer. The wallet is not a party to the relationship. It is a delivery mechanism.
Chainalysis. Elliptic. TRM Labs. They cluster your addresses, brand your history, and sell reports to whoever pays — banks that will freeze your account, exchanges that will refuse your withdrawal, prosecutors that will build a case, a spouse's lawyer that will win the divorce. You are the product. The buyer is a stranger.
Blind signatures. Untraceable payments. Ecash. The math has not changed. That the industry ignored it for four decades is not a technical failure. It is a political preference.
A mint issues blinded bearer tokens against Lightning deposits. The mint signs something it cannot see. The user redeems something the mint cannot correlate. Between issuance and redemption there is no attribution, and no cooperation from the operator can recover it. This is not a policy promise. It is a cryptographic fact.
The mint operator is the pressure point the entire system is designed around. One mint is a single point of trust. A hundred mints is a market. A thousand mints is an ecosystem no regulator can name and no adversary can subpoena. Every mint that boots is one more escape route.
The Cashu ecosystem is small and rough. Choose it anyway. Fund it with Lightning. Spend it with Lightning. Rotate mints. Rotate wallets. Even sloppy Cashu beats the KYC exchange asking to see your face.
Someone has to. The state will not print it. The bank will not license it. The venture capitalist will fund it only to the exit. Every published implementation is one more thing they cannot unpublish. Fork MINTED. Improve it. Ship it back.
